Privacy Policy

The Register keeps as little of your information as it can, uses it only to do what you asked, and hands none of it to anyone who isn't helping deliver your adoption. This policy sets out exactly what we hold and why, in plain terms.

Who we are

The National Roundabout Register (“we”, “us”, “the Register”) is an independent novelty gift service, and is the data controller for the personal information described here. The National Roundabout Register is a trading name of Christopher Wedge. Our postal address is 61 Bridge Street, Kington, HR5 3DJ, and you can reach us at support@adoptaroundabout.co.uk. We are registered with the UK Information Commissioner's Office (ICO) under reference ZC236388.

What we collect

• Your email address — to send you your documents and, for a gift, to send the recipient a link to claim their entry.
• The name or alias you choose to appear on your certificate and/or on the public Register, and your display and anonymity preferences.
• Which roundabout you adopt, and your adoption number.
• For a gift: the recipient's name and email address, which you provide. The name is printed on their certificate (a private document); the email is used only to send them their bundle and a private link to choose how they appear on the public Register. Their public entry stays anonymous until they choose.
• Basic order details — order number, amount and date — which we keep for our records and to meet our tax obligations.

We do not receive or store your card or payment details. Payment is handled entirely by our checkout provider, Lemon Squeezy (see below).

Why we use it, and our lawful bases

• To take your payment and deliver your documents — because it is necessary to perform our contract with you (UK GDPR Article 6(1)(b)).
• To display your chosen name or alias on the public Register — with your consent (Article 6(1)(a)), which you can withdraw at any time (see Your choices and rights). For a gift, the recipient gives their own consent when they open their claim link; until then their entry shows as anonymous.
• To keep order and tax records — to meet our legal obligations (Article 6(1)(c)).
• To keep the service secure and prevent abuse — our legitimate interest in running the service safely (Article 6(1)(f)).

What appears in public

The public Register shows only the display name you choose. By default that is your first name and the initial of your surname (for example, “Chris W.”); you may instead choose your full name, a custom alias, or to appear anonymously. Your email address is never published, and your full name is never published unless you specifically choose the full-name option. Gift entries appear as anonymous until the recipient claims them and chooses for themselves.

Who else processes your data

We use a small number of trusted providers to run the service. Each acts on our instructions:

• Lemon Squeezy — checkout and payment (as merchant of record).
• Resend — sending your document emails.
• Netlify — website hosting and holding new orders briefly in a queue for fulfilment.
• GitHub — running the automation that produces your documents and stores the Register.

Several of these providers are based in the United States, so your information may be transferred outside the UK. Where it is, we rely on appropriate safeguards — such as the UK's International Data Transfer Agreement or, for US providers, the UK Extension to the EU–US Data Privacy Framework. We don't sell your data or use it for advertising.

The website itself

The site is static and sets no tracking or advertising cookies. Two features reach out to third parties only when you use them: the postcode search sends the postcode you type to postcodes.io to find nearby roundabouts, and a roundabout's Street View loads from Google only after you click to open it.

How long we keep it

We keep your email address and order details for about six years, in line with HMRC record-keeping requirements, and then delete them. After that, only your adoption number and your chosen public display name remain — that record is the Register itself, and it stands for as long as the Register does.

Your choices and rights

You can change how you appear on the Register, or remove your name entirely, at any time using the “manage your entry” link in your delivery email — no need to ask us. You also have the right to ask us to give you a copy of your data, correct it, delete it, restrict or object to how we use it, or receive it in a portable form, and to withdraw your consent to the public listing. To exercise any of these, use the manage link or email support@adoptaroundabout.co.uk.

If you're unhappy with how we've handled your data, you can complain to the ICO at ico.org.uk — though we'd appreciate the chance to put it right first.

Changes to this policy

If we change this policy we'll update the date above. Material changes will be noted on this page.
